Gaming and Racing Minister Kevin Greene said the NSW Government is targeting 18-24 year-old men frequenting online betting and social networking sites.  “This campaign seizes on these feelings of guilt and regret and delivers the message that it’s time to take action and seek help before things get worse", Mr Greene said.

Dr Sally Gainsbury is conducting a comprehensive research project to increase the understanding of the nature and impacts of online gambling. 

Dr Gainsbury, based at Southern Cross University’s Centre for Gambling Education and Research, will be collaborating with an international team of researchers.

The final report of the Productivity Commission's Inquiry into Gambling has been released by the Federal Government.  The Commonwealth has called for development of pre-commitment for EGMs, the establishment of a Select Committee and rejected calls for the liberalisation of Internet gambling.  Copies of the complete report are available from the Productivity Commission website (http://www.pc.gov.au). 

The Australasian Gaming Council (AGC) has welcomed the Federal Government's response to the final report of the Productivity Commission's Inquiry into Gambling and looks forward to being involved in the continuing consultative process.  A full copy of the AGC media release is available here.

The 20th Annual National Association for Gambling Studies (NAGS) Conference will be held at Jupiters Hotel & Casino, Gold Coast from 1-3 December 2010.  NAGS is Australia’s leading gambling research forum and the annual conference aims to encourage dialogue between the various sectors involved in the gambling debate. Responsible Gambling Awareness Week (RGAW) is a partnership between industry, local government, the community sector and state government.  In 2010 RGAW will be running nationwide from 17-23 May.

Featuring themes of knowledge, balance and control RGAW, which is dedicated to raising awareness of responsible gambling strategies and practices, is now running for its fifth consecutive year in Victoria.

The Aboriginal Health & Medical Research Council of NSW (AH&MRC) has recently launched the “Let’s Talk Gambling” website .   

The objective of the website is to provide information about gambling, problem gambling, available resources and access to assistance services for Aboriginal communities in New South Wales.

A new Victorian Government partnership with Alfred Health to better link problem gambling and mental health treatment services was launched recently by Gaming Minister Tony Robinson. 

Mr Robinson said the $665,000 Statewide Problem Gambling and Mental Health Program will offer enhanced treatment options for people living with gambling problems and mental illness.  
  
Under this new initiative, clients will have their gambling and mental health problems addressed together rather than by separate services, making treatment more accessible, more comprehensive and more effective.

The Victorian Government has announced that the state's Italian and Vietnamese communities will now have access to in-language gambling support services, thanks to a $500,000 Government grant for two new bilingual Gambler’s Help counsellors. 

Gaming Minister Tony Robinson said the funding was for a two-year pilot project that aims to enhance the in-language gambling counselling services provided by Gambler’s Help. 

The bilingual Gambler’s Help counsellors will be located at agencies in Melbourne’s north and west.
