Reducing gambling harm from poker machines (ACT)

The ACT Government is proposing to establish a ‘central monitoring system’ to introduce $5 bet and $100 credit limits for poker machines. Minister for Gaming, Shane Rattenbury, has released a discussion paper outlining the proposed changes for community consultation.

Cutting the number of pokies with new surrender incentive

The ACT Government will invest $1.74 million into a new surrender incentive, to cut the number of gaming machine authorisations by up to 116. Where the venue becomes ‘pokie-free’, the incentive payment is increased to $20,000 per authorisation.

The VRGF campaign adopted last year is resonating with Victorians who want to to change their gambling behaviour. The ‘Talk to someone who gets it’ campaign generated 1,149 calls – a 64% increase on normal call levels and the highest number of monthly calls to the helpline for many years.

Vic clubs renew vow to rid AFL of sports betting sponsorship

Victoria’s 10 AFL clubs and AFL Victoria have renewed their Love the Game (LTG) partnerships through to October 2024, by which time all will have been free of sports betting sponsorships for at least five years.
