NSW to close online wagering loophole (NSW)

The NSW Government will introduce a 10% tax on all wagers placed by NSW residents, regardless of the location of the wagering operator, closing a current loophole in wagering laws. Many online wagering companies are physically located and licensed outside of NSW.

A new advisory panel will be established to provide even greater oversight and transparency of decisions about the casino. The Casino and Other Gaming Legislation Amendment Act 2018 will require the Minister to establish a Casino Advisory Panel in a range of circumstances.

The Victorian Government will provide a further $300,000 in grants for early career researchers to study Victoria's gambling behaviours and ways to reduce harm e.g. research into emerging gambling markets and gambling harm in LGBTIQ and regional communities.

Point of Consumption Tax Fact Sheet Released (VIC)

From 1/1/19, the Victorian Government will replace the current wagering and betting tax structures with a point of consumption wagering and betting tax. The POCT will apply at a rate of 8% of the net wagering revenue derived from all wagering and betting activity in Victoria.

Gaming machines in all South Australian pubs and clubs have been connected to a new automated system that will help staff identify patrons who may be at risk of harm from gambling.  The new initiative has seen poker machines hooked up to an automated risk monitoring system.

New Study to Shine Light on Victorian Gambling

Minister for Gaming and Liquor Regulation, Marlene Kairouz, has announced that the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation has awarded the CQUniversity a $1 million contract to undertake research into emerging gambling products, consumer behaviours and gambling harm.
