The Minister for Racing has announced that Deakin University is to develop the first intervention apps for mobiles in Australia aimed at supporting people who want to take control of their gambling.  The NSW Government will invest $436,000 towards the project.

This review evaluated the extent to which online consumer protection principles recommended by the EU Commission were adopted by member states & see if the recommendation was influential in encouraging regulatory convergence & a high level of consumer protection across the EU.

Online corporate bookmakers will now pay tax on their operations in WA. The tax is estimated to raise additional revenue of about $94 million. The Point of Consumption tax reform package also brings WA in line with other states in Australia, and places the local TAB in a more competitive position.

Under a new deal, prize money levels for Queensland thoroughbred TAB race meetings will increase by $26 million in exchange for a commitment from the Thoroughbred Alliance to continue discussions and sign up to broader industry reforms.

The NSW Government has announced that the Responsible Gambling Fund will be allocated $5 million per year following the introduction of the State's new Point of Consumption Tax on online wagering, to commence 1 January 2019.
