Premier Mark McGowan and Health Minister Roger Cook have welcomed the appointment of new Lotterywest and Healthway chairperson, Professor Peter Klinken AC.  Professor Klinken will assume his role as chairperson this week for a three-year term.

The NSW Liberal & National Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with ClubsNSW that recognises the role clubs play in communities, especially in regional and rural NSW.  

Following consultation with the racing industry and other stakeholders, the State Government will move forward with the sale of the WA TAB. A 15% 'point of consumption tax' will also be introduced. The streamlined wagering tax system will be in place by January 1, 2019.

Western Australians are encouraged to reflect on healthy gambling behaviours and practices for Responsible Gambling Awareness Week. Running from 8-14 October, it's designed to promote RG, encourage community discussion around gambling harm and highlight the support available.

Victoria's inaugural Gambling Harm Awareness Week (14 October) was today launched by the Minister for Consumer Affairs, Gaming and Liquor Regulation, Marlene Kairouz, at an event that showcased innovative community approaches to tackling gambling harm. 

Gambling Harm Awareness Week, 8-14 October 2018 in the ACT and Victoria, provides an opportunity to talk openly about what gambling harm is, how it affects the community, what can be done to prevent it, and how to support those affected by it.

Assistant Minister for Regional development and Territories, Sussan Ley, has announced that there will be consultation on issues associated with a casino on Christmas Island and the development of a proposal to inform a decision by the Australian Government.

Racing infrastructure, and key community programs like the gambling help line, emergency helicopter services and kids' sports will benefit from funding from revenue generated by changes to taxes on large betting operators. Additional Point of Consumption revenue would be used.

In 2017/18 national wagering on Tasmanian racing grew by more than 12 per cent to $576 million, building on growth of nearly 9 per cent achieved during the previous financial year. 

The Gaming and Wagering Legislation Amendment Bill 2018 will expand the powers of the Gaming and Wagering Commission to stop products such as Lottoland, which offer betting on the outcome of domestic and overseas lottery draws, from entering the market.
