Funding boost for research into harm from gambling (VIC)

The Victorian Government has announced funding for five new projects to support the work of early career researchers.  Projects include the gambling experiences of people with a disability, e-Sports and skin betting, gambling and LGBTIQ communities, and the experience of those seeking help.

Gambling Commission calls for evidence on gaming machines and gambling online with credit cards (UK)

The Commission is seeking feedback from stakeholders to consider whether the use of credit cards for online gambling should be restricted or prohibited. The Commission is also calling for evidence especially in regards to the effectiveness of player protections on Category B gaming machines.

14 day verification rules to protect young people & vulnerable gamblers (NAT)

From 26th Feb, 2019, new national rules come into force that reduce the customer verification period for new online wagering consumers from 90 days to a maximum of 14 days. This means that online wagering providers will be able to reduce the risk of underage or self-excluded participants.

Early delivery: almost 1000 fewer pokie machines in the ACT community before 2020 target (ACT)

The Attorney-General announced that the maximum number of gaming machines that can be operated in the Territory has been reduced to 4,012. If the remaining 12 authorisations does not reduce by the end of Feb 2019, steps will be put in place  for compulsory surrender to occur on April 1, 2019.

The Gambling Commission (UK) has issued its consultation response following the proposal of changes to the licence conditions and codes of practice on age and identity verification for remote gambling. There are two principle changes and both are to take effect from 7 May, 2019.

Same-day barring orders to better protect problem gamblers (SA)

Changes to the way gambling barring orders are processed are making it easier for South Australians who are either experiencing or are at risk of gambling harm.  The Attorney-General said the state's gambling regulator has overhauled the process, allowing same-day barring.
